Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress has unveiled a new party logo featuring a footballer symbol after the Election Commission's interim decision froze the party's earlier name and the twin-flower symbol. The new logo carries the name “Mamata All India Trinamool Congress” around a footballer at its centre.

New logo and symbol

The logo uses a blue-and-white circular design, with saffron, white and green accents. The footballer symbol is the interim election symbol allotted to the Mamata-led camp for the October 6 by-elections in Nandigram and Rejinagar.

The party has asked its leaders, office-bearers and elected representatives to publicise the new logo and help voters become familiar with the new symbol. Several MPs and MLAs began sharing the logo on social media on Monday.

Election Commission's interim arrangement

The Election Commission had earlier frozen the name “All India Trinamool Congress” and the twin-flower symbol while the dispute between the two TMC camps is being considered. On September 18, the Commission allotted the Mamata-led camp the interim name “Mamata All India Trinamool Congress” and the footballer symbol. The other camp was allotted “Democratic Trinamool Congress” and an envelope symbol for the by-elections.

The Commission's interim arrangement applies to the upcoming by-elections, while the broader dispute over the party's name, symbol and organisational control remains subject to further proceedings.
