Trinamool Congress national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee did not appear at Shakespeare Sarani police station on Monday morning after being summoned for questioning in connection with the Camac Street billboard-removal incident.

According to reports by Anandabazar Patrika and Sangbad Pratidin on October 12, Banerjee sent an email to the police seeking at least 48 hours’ notice before appearing. The notice had asked him to attend the police station at 10 am.

The case relates to an August 27 incident during an attempt by Kolkata Municipal Corporation officials and police to remove TMC signage from a building on Camac Street that houses a party office. Three FIRs were registered in connection with the incident.

Banerjee had previously appeared before investigators for questioning in one of the cases. Police have now sought another round of questioning. The latest development concerns his request for additional notice; the investigation is ongoing.
