Chinese President Xi Jinping called for peaceful coexistence, stronger communication and cooperation between China and the United States during his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.

Xi said both countries could benefit from cooperation and peaceful coexistence, while confrontation would harm both sides. He called for regular dialogue between the Chinese and U.S. militaries and stronger crisis-communication mechanisms.

The Chinese president also argued for healthy and measured competition rather than confrontation. On artificial intelligence, he said the two countries should work responsibly to ensure the technology remains under human control and serves public welfare.

Trump also spoke of advancing China-U.S. ties through mutual respect and the interests of people in both countries.

According to China's official account of the meeting, the two sides discussed building a constructive relationship based on cooperation, manageable competition, properly managed differences and the avoidance of conflict.
