West Bengal Government Plans Jobs for Families of Political Violence Victims

The West Bengal government is reportedly moving towards providing a permanent government job to one eligible member of families who lost a relative in incidents of political violence in the state over the past 25 years.
According to reports citing sources in Nabanna, the proposal was discussed at a state Cabinet meeting after the Durga Puja period. The administration is understood to be examining whether any legal or procedural complications could arise before implementing the decision.
The reported plan would cover families affected by political violence across the state. Details such as eligibility criteria, the documents required, the departments that may make appointments and the implementation timeline are yet to be formally clarified.
The proposal should be distinguished from the separate Cabinet decision reported on October 28 to provide permanent Group D jobs to eligible next of kin of those killed in the Chorbagan Durga Puja pandal stampede. The government is yet to publish a detailed notification setting out the scope and rules of the broader political-violence proposal.
