Durga Puja is just around the corner. Mahalaya is also approaching. Although the Puja countdown has begun, the weather’s unpredictability is not going away. Rather, there are signs of rain again ahead of Puja. After Tuesday, scattered rain continued in several districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, on Wednesday as well. According to the weather office forecast, the state may experience stormy and rainy conditions until the end of this week due to the influence of two cyclonic circulations and several troughs.

The sky in Kolkata will remain mostly cloudy on Wednesday as well. There is a possibility of moderate rain or rain accompanied by thunderstorms. The city received 31.1 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, another 25.2 mm of rain was recorded. The maximum temperature of the day was 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 26.2 degrees Celsius. The maximum humidity in the air was 97 percent.

This has also raised concerns over last-minute shopping for the Puja market. This is because along with rain, there is also a possibility of gusty winds and frequent lightning in several districts. If the sky turns dark, it is safer to avoid staying outdoors unnecessarily.

However, there is some relief for now, as there is no possibility of heavy rain in South Bengal. There is also a possibility of temporarily dry weather after Mahalaya. But it is not yet possible to be certain about the weather during the Puja days. There is a possibility of a new low-pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal in mid-October. However, its track is not yet clear. Therefore, one will have to wait a few more days to know the final picture of the weather during Puja.
