Not at Sreebhumi, Sujit Bose will remain behind bars this Puja. The Calcutta High Court has rejected the bail plea of former state minister Sujit Bose, who was arrested in the municipal recruitment corruption case.

Irregularities in recruitment at South Dum Dum Municipality! Sujit Bose is alleged to be the mastermind. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) presented strong arguments opposing Sujit Bose’s bail plea at the Calcutta High Court. According to the chargesheet recently filed against him, the ED has alleged that around Rs 20 crore of the corruption involving more than Rs 250 crore came through Sujit Bose.

While opposing bail, the ED argued that Sujit Bose is politically influential and could influence witnesses.

Dhaba closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, yet Rs 10 crore earned in cash in one year! The ED has levelled sensational allegations against Sujit Bose in the municipal recruitment corruption case.

While opposing Sujit Bose’s bail plea at the Calcutta High Court, the ED relied on statements made by employees of his family’s dhaba business.

During its arguments, the central investigating agency claimed that the financial transactions of the dhaba business run by Sujit Bose’s son, Samudra Bose, were suspicious in connection with the municipal recruitment corruption case.

The ED claims that Rs 10 crore was received in cash even when the dhaba was closed during the COVID-19 pandemic! The agency suspects that the money was proceeds of corruption. According to the ED, statements of employees working at the dhaba were recorded. They stated that the dhaba had remained closed for a long period during the pandemic and that they had stayed at home, with no work taking place.

The ED has questioned how transactions worth Rs 10 crore could have taken place when the dhaba was closed. It suspects that the money was actually linked to the recruitment corruption and that Sujit Bose presented it as business income to conceal its origin.

The ED has also expressed suspicion over accounts showing that Rs 5 lakh was earned through app-based food delivery services at Sujit Bose’s dhaba.

According to the allegations in the chargesheet, Sujit Bose had recommended 340 people for appointments at South Dum Dum Municipality. The ED has alleged that Sujit Bose took Rs 6 lakh from each job applicant.

After the hearing, the bench of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh at the Calcutta High Court rejected Sujit Bose’s bail plea.
