Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's scheduled two-day visit to Chhattisgarh on October 7 and 8 has been postponed, with the Chief Electoral Officer's office citing unavoidable reasons.

Kumar was scheduled to travel with senior Election Commission officials and visit the Danteshwari Mata Temple in Dantewada, Chitrakote Waterfall in Bastar and Bhoramdeo Temple in Kabirdham. The Chhattisgarh government had also made arrangements to receive him as a State Guest.

The postponement comes amid intensified Opposition protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demands for Kumar's resignation. Opposition MPs had staged a prolonged protest in Delhi on October 6 after being stopped from marching towards the Election Commission's office.

The Chief Electoral Officer's office said the revised dates for the Chhattisgarh visit would be communicated separately after they are received from the Election Commission.
