Kolkata Food Safety Raids Continue, Restaurants and Food Courts Inspected
Kolkata's food safety drive continued on Sunday as civic and food department officials inspected restaurants and food courts across the city. The inspections focused on food storage, kitchen hygiene, ingredients and the condition of prepared food.
Officials checked food courts at several prominent shopping malls, including Acropolis, South City and Metropolis Mall in Highland Park. Food items found to be expired, stale or improperly stored were discarded during the inspections.
The latest inspections follow a wider food-safety crackdown across Kolkata. Earlier checks at Park Street restaurants and eateries in areas including Deckers Lane, Jorabagan and Lake Market found stale meat, fish, mould-affected food and other storage or hygiene concerns. Authorities have also been collecting food samples for testing and issuing warnings or notices where required.
The campaign is aimed at ensuring that restaurants and food outlets follow food-safety and hygiene standards ahead of the festive season.
