The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has identified 105 incidents through CCTV footage, the Supreme Court was informed on Monday, September 21, 2026.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, referring to the SIT status report, told the Supreme Court that the investigation is nearing completion and that the chargesheet is expected to be filed by September 25. The court took the report and the information presented during the hearing on record.

105 incidents identified on CCTV

The SIT report said investigators analysed CCTV footage along with witness statements and other material to identify alleged donation-theft incidents and the accused in the case. The report also said receipts for valuables are generated through software and the items are stored in a State Bank of India locker.

Eight people named in the FIR have been arrested and are in custody. They have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Corruption Act. The allegations and evidence remain subject to the judicial process.

SIT investigation nearing completion

The Supreme Court declined the petitioners' request for a copy of the SIT report, saying it did not want to take the matter out of the Sessions Judge's hands. The bench indicated that it could issue further directions if it considered additional investigation necessary.

The three-member SIT was constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government on June 13 at the request of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Its preliminary report was submitted to the state government on June 23.
