West Bengal's student bicycle distribution scheme ‘Sabuj Sathi’ has been renamed ‘Sarathi’. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the change on Tuesday.
the scheme was launched during Mamata Banerjee's tenure as chief minister and has now been renamed ‘Sarathi’. Under the renamed initiative, 12.59 lakh students are set to receive bicycles.
The scheme is intended to help students commute to school. Along with the renaming, the administration has announced the bicycle distribution plan for students.
The move changes the name and branding of a scheme introduced by the previous government, while the stated purpose of providing bicycles to facilitate students' school travel remains.
