Kolkata: A court in Chinsurah has denied bail to Bengal and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel, remanding him to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with a case alleging rape, physical assault, criminal intimidation and false promise of marriage.

Porel was arrested on August 10 by Mogra police from his residence in Dum Dum, following a Calcutta High Court direction. The case stems from a complaint filed on June 23 by a medical student, who alleged the two had been in a relationship for around three years and that he had promised to marry her before the relationship soured.

Porel has denied the allegations. He was initially remanded to three days of police custody after his arrest; the court has now extended his custody to 14 days in judicial detention. The Calcutta High Court had earlier ordered the seizure of electronic devices, including his phone, as part of the investigation, and deferred further hearing of the matter to September 14 at the state's request.

A second person named in the complaint, described as an associate of Porel, has not yet been arrested. Porel, who has represented India A and Delhi Capitals in the IPL, has not played competitive cricket since IPL 2026 concluded.
