New Delhi: The proposed three-day nationwide bank strike scheduled for September 28 to 30 has been deferred following talks between the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU).

The strike had been proposed over several long-standing demands raised by bank employees and unions, including the implementation of a five-day banking week.

Key demands raised by bank unions

Among the major issues raised by the unions are:

• Introduction of a five-day banking week

• Improvements in pension benefits

• A uniform dearness allowance formula for pensioners

• An option for employees covered under the National Pension System (NPS) to shift to the old pension scheme

The unions had indicated that progress on the five-day banking week could lead to reconsideration of the proposed strike.

With the latest discussions between the IBA and UFBU, the planned strike from September 28 to 30 has now been deferred, providing temporary relief for customers and businesses concerned about disruption to banking services.
